Nurturing the Future of Neonatal and Perinatal Care
This event is designed for pediatricians, neonatologists, advanced practice providers and nurses to provide a yearly update on neonatal and perinatal medicine as a result of periodic surveys of health care professionals and continuous changes in quality care.
Learning Objectives
- Identify features and functions of the healthy human microbiome
- Identify features of dysbiosis
- Identify examples of how microbiome profiles are relevant to care of patients with cancer
- Give examples how to verbalize discussion around unknown chromosomal abnormalities with families
- Apply effective communication principles in discussion with families
- Recognize the struggles that come with being a NICU parent
- Define Family-Centered Care and recognize its importance in the NICU
- Describe how parents have defined the concept of the “good” parent in previous studies
- Identify at least 2 possible ways that findings from a current qualitative study on “good” parents in the NICU impact future clinical practice
- Describe how retinopathy of prematurity emerged with evolving care practices of preterm infants
- Recognize the pathogenesis and classification of ROP
- Discuss treatment options and current understandings of risks/benefits
- Describe the clinical condition of preeclampsia
- Explain the particular implications on the fetus and neonate of pregnancies impacted by preeclampsia spectrum disorders
- Summarize the roles of the multi-disciplinary team in fostering infant development
- To identify 3 ways infants display stress in the NICU environment
- To identify 2 ways to incorporate neuro-protection in the NICU
