New Cancer Center at Linden Oaks

June 21, 2021|4 min. read

The Lipson Cancer Institute recently completed a $4.5 million renovation project at the Linden Oaks Medical Campus, transforming the building into a multi-disciplinary center for patients with cancer.

The 32-month, 18,760 square foot renovation and expansion is designed to meet increased patient demand and promote integration of Lipson Cancer Institute’s cancer care programs.

Comprehensive cancer care, right in Penfield

“The Lipson Cancer Institute at Linden Oaks offers cancer detection, diagnosis, and care – all under one roof,” said Pradyumna Phatak, MD, Medical Director, Lipson Cancer Institute. “With an emphasis on precision medicine and genomic health, screening education and prevention, and advanced, innovative technology, our Linden Oaks campus will provide a seamless experience for patients undergoing treatment.”

The comprehensive cancer center will serve patients throughout their cancer journey and has been planned with patient care as the highest priority, supporting Rochester Regional Health’s commitment to providing cancer care that changes lives.

“Many of the recent advances in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer require close collaboration between cancer specialists in differing areas of expertise,” said Lori Medeiros, MDCM, FRCSC, FACS, MBA, Executive Director of the Breast Service Line and the Executive Director for Cancer Business Development at Rochester Regional Health. “Rochester Regional Health’s multidisciplinary Lipson Cancer Institute brings those specialists together to evaluate each patient’s case and then to meet individually with the patient to discuss treatment options. A process that might otherwise take weeks is completed in a single day, and treatment can begin quickly.”

Floor 1: Radiation oncology

Highly experienced radiation oncologists and the very latest and best technology.

  • Linear accelerator (LINAC) with RapidArc technology- This technology provides fast, more targeted radiation treatment that is more comfortable, more precise and causes fewer side effects than traditional radiation treatments. Oncologists at Lipson Cancer Institute can use this technology to create individualized and more precise treatment plans. Tailored plans and fewer, shorter sessions drastically reduce the treatment time for patients.
  • CT simulator - With this technology, the CT images acquired during an x-ray scan will be reconstructed and used to design the most precise treatment plans. The simulation portion of the radiation therapy regiment ensures treatments will target the area of concern, while missing surrounding critical structures. The treatment results in no extra time commitment.
  • Vision RT – This image-guided technique for breast cancer treatment localizes and targets the radiation to target only the area of concern, while conserving surrounding healthy breast tissue. Rochester Regional Health is the only cancer center in Western New York to offer surface guided treatment for left breast cancer using Vision RT.

Floor 2: Medical oncology

Best-in-class oncologists and hematologists working together to ensure a comprehensive approach to patient treatment.

  • 17 newly renovated private exam rooms (an increase from six), which will dramatically decrease appointment wait times for new patients.
  • Increased infusion capabilities with 20 private infusion suites (an increase from 12), equipped with a reclining lounge chair, TV, and storage lockers for personal items.

Floor 2: Specialty cancer programs and services

Programs and services that span the full continuum of care.

  • Cancer Screening and Genetics Clinic – Develops personalized plans for cancer screening, risk reduction and possible genetic testing.
  • Cancer Pain and Rehabilitation Clinic – Develops personalized pain management plans to help manage symptoms of cancer and its treatment throughout all stages of the disease.
  • Palliative Care Clinic – Designed to support quality of life decisions, improve symptoms and maximize the quality of life for people with progressive, serious illnesses or medical conditions.
  • A dedicated oncology pharmacy ensuring patients are able to receive the medications they need before they even leave the clinic.
  • Additional clinical support for patients, including nutrition support, social work, and mental health counseling.
