Dr. Feitell specializes in Advanced Heart Failure, Transplant Medicine, Mechanical Circulatory Support and Pulmonary Hypertension.
He earned his BA in Chemistry at New York University, obtained a Masters in Medical Science at Drexel University College of Medicine, and attended medical school at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. He was awarded the Dean’s Award for outstanding achievements and commitment to the medical school. He completed his Internal Medicine Residency and Cardiology Fellowship at Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia, PA. He completed his Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant training at Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, OH.
Dr. Feitell is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Disease, Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Medicine, Echocardiography and Nuclear Cardiology. He is a Fellow in the American College of Cardiology and a member of The International Society of Heart and Lung Transplantation and The Heart Failure Society of America.
Dr. Feitell is a site investigator in several Phase III Clinical Trials and has presented at both national and international meetings, on topics as varied as outcomes in heart transplantation, complications of mechanical circulatory support devices and the use of novel biomarkers to detect organ rejection. He is also an early adopter of new technologies to aid heart failure patients and manages the largest implantable pulmonary artery monitor sensor (Cardiomems Implants) program in upstate New York. He also introduced the Sensible Medical Vest, a point of care test that can detect fluid in lungs in patients with heart failure, a first in upstate NY, which helps gets patients discharged from the hospital sooner and keeps them from returning volume overloaded. He is currently working with post-doctorate graduates at R.I.T. on a new remote monitoring device that will better be able to monitor patients living with heart failure at home with non-invasive sensors.
His relationship with Cleveland Clinic, NYU Medical Center, Temple University, Thomas Jefferson University, University of Rochester, and Westchester Medical Center has provided a large consortium of programs to aid patients in receiving transplants and left ventricular assist devices in the Rochester Region, in addition to gaining access to cutting edge procedures and research protocols for rare diseases such as cardiac sarcoid, amyloidosis and chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension.
He has written several book chapters and review articles on topics such as heart failure and pulmonary hypertension. In addition to his own research and national lecture invitations, he helps support the Rochester General Hospital Residency program with lectures, shadowing opportunities, clerkships and supports the research endeavors of residents with an interest in the field of cardiovascular disease and heart failure.
Dr. Feitell is married with two children. In his spare time, he enjoys travel, baseball and spending time with his family.
