Fourth Year Medical Student Elective

We are excited to welcome students to participate in our Rochester General Hospital Emergency Department elective.

This is an excellent clinical opportunity to learn about Emergency Medicine in a busy tertiary care setting. Students will work one-on-one with board certified Emergency Medicine Physicians who are committed to both bedside and classroom education. Various mentorship opportunities will be available.

Students will participate in skills labs focused on suturing, ultrasound, and ED simulation at our state of the art SIM lab, as well as EKG interpretation skills sessions. Our program maintains a focus on wellness and work-life balance, with rigorous clinical education, but always keeping in mind that if we do not take care of ourselves, we cannot take care of others.

Eligibility

This four week rotation is offered to US fourth year medical students who are in good standing at their home institutions.

Diversity & Inclusion

The Emergency Department of Rochester General has a commitment to increasing diversity and inclusion in medicine. We offer a $1,000 stipend for qualified students who are underrepresented in medicine as defined by the AAMC: "Underrepresented in medicine means those racial and ethnic populations that are underrepresented in the medical profession relative to their numbers in the general population."

Stipends will be awarded to help offset the costs associated with the rotation, including house, food, transportation, etc. We will invite recipients as well as any student interested to attend and participate in meetings and events of the Emergency Medicine Diversity Committee.

How to Apply

To apply, please see the VSAS website or contact us via email at RGH.Edu@rochesterregional.org.
