When every second counts
Thirty-eight year old Kate Hall of Newark woke up with pain in her chest. The busy mother of five was concerned, by not too worried, so she asked her husband Jon to drive her to her doctor's office for a quick checkup.
On the way, though, things took a turn for the worse. Kate became unresponsive and her heart stopped beating. Changing course immediately, Jon rushed her to the Newark-Wayne Community Hospital Emergency Department.
"The Newark-Wayne Emergency Department physician immediately transferred Kate to Rochester General...he saved her life," said
Gerald Gacioch, MD, Chief of Cardiology, Rochester General Hospital. Once there, the team resuscitated Kate, and transported her by Mercy Flight to the Rochester Regional Sands-Constellation Heart Institute at Rochester General Hospital.
Because Newark-Wayne and Rochester General utilize the same electronic medical record system, the Cardiac team was able to immediately assess, diagnose and treat Kate's fully blocked artery by placing five stents.
After one week in the hospital and a month of cardiac rehab at Newark-Wayne, Kate is home again and back to her career as a recreational therapist - and her life as a partner and mother, a taxi driver and chef, and a confidante and healer.
