Comprehensive, Leading Edge Neurosurgery Care

With access to the most advanced surgical technologies and the collaborative experience of dedicated specialists in Neurology, Neurointerventional SurgeryOncology and Pathology, you can rest assured that you will receive the most accurate diagnosis and superior, compassionate care.

Diagnosis

At the Rochester Regional Health Neuroscience Institute, we utilize the latest equipment and testing practices to ensure that our neurosurgeons are able to plan procedures in advance with greater precision.

Our diagnostic services include:

  • Computed Tomography (CT) – a noninvasive diagnostic imaging procedure that uses a combination of a rotating x-ray scanner and sophisticated computers to produce a series of two-dimensional and three-dimensional images of the brain, assessing the brain for tumors, injuries, bleeding, etc.
  • Electroencephalography (EEG) – a test that detects abnormalities in your brain waves. During the procedure, electrodes detect tiny electrical charges that result from the activity of your brain cells. Our experienced neurologists use the results to diagnose a variety of neurological problems, from common headaches and dizziness to seizure disorders, strokes and degenerative brain disease.
  • Electromyography (EMG) – a diagnostic procedure that measures muscle response or electrical activity in response to a nerve’s stimulation of the muscle. During the procedure, brief electrical impulses are applied to the skin at different sites to measure muscle responsiveness. Results can help diagnose nerve dysfunction, muscle dysfunction, or problems with nerve-to-muscle signal transmission.
  • Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) – a diagnostic procedure which uses magnetic fields, not x-rays, to produce detailed images of the body, especially images of soft tissues or tumors.
  • Myelogram - a diagnostic imaging test which uses a contrast dye and x-rays or computed tomography (CT) to look for problems in the spinal canal. Problems can develop in the spinal cord, nerve roots, and other tissues. This test is also called myelography.
  • Transcranial Doppler – a noninvasive technique that measures the speed of blood flow in blood vessels and arteries to assess blood vessel spasm following subarachnoid hemorrhage and other types of stroke.

Treatment

Using the most advanced surgical technology, our neurosurgeons are better able to perform minimally-invasive surgeries with greater precision which result in excellent outcomes, low complication rates, low infection rates, and shorter recovery times.

These procedures include:

Brain surgery

  • Treatment of brain hemorrhage
  • Aneurysm repair
  • Tumor removal
  • Trauma repair
  • Hydrocephalus surgery
  • Stereotactic radiosurgery

Peripheral nerve surgery

  • Carpal tunnel release
  • Ulnar nerve release

Spine surgery

  • Discectomy
  • Laminectomy
  • Spinal fusion
  • Cervical disc replacement
  • Spinal cord stimulation

Our neurosurgeons consult with each patient, to evaluate and choose the best treatment. They listen to your concerns and answer your questions. If surgery is needed, you will understand why, what to expect and how to help your recovery.
