An In-Depth Look at Your Sleep
If your doctor needs more information about your quality of sleep, they may recommend a sleep study. We conduct in-lab sleep studies at all of our Rochester Regional Health Sleep Center locations. For your comfort and conveniences, we also offer home sleep studies.
Home Sleep Studies
Testing for some conditions – primarily sleep apnea – can sometimes be done in the comfort of your own home. Instead of sleeping overnight at one of our Sleep Centers, we provide you with easy-to-use, portable equipment that you’ll wear while you sleep in your own bed. If your doctor recommends a home sleep study, they’ll talk to you about it at your initial consult appointment. Some insurance companies are now requiring home sleep studies more often.
How Home Sleep Studies Work
We’ll schedule a time for you to come in and pick up portable sleep study equipment. When you pick of the equipment, one of our registered sleep technicians will show you exactly how to use it and answer any questions you might have. If you have any questions about using the equipment while you’re at home, our technicians are available for phone calls anytime during the night.
The morning after your home sleep study, you’ll bring the equipment back to your Rochester Regional Health Sleep Center. Our board-certified sleep providers will analyze the results and prepare treatment recommendations.
Getting Your results
It takes about two weeks for our providers to properly analyze the data from your sleep study. You will return for a follow-up appointment to discuss our findings and treatment recommendations, including CPAP set-up. Many patients see immediate results from treatment. But no matter what treatment approach is recommended, we will continue to follow up to make sure you are sleeping better.
In-Lab Sleep Studies
What to expect
You'll come to our Center at 8 pm. A specially trained technician will place painless sensors at strategic spots on your skin.
These sensors connect to equipment that records your brain activity, eye movements, muscle activity, heart activity, breathing effort, and blood oxygen saturation while you sleep. All of this data is very useful to diagnose your condition.
All of our rooms are appointed like hotel rooms with private bathrooms, cable TV, plush robes, and comfortable beds. The more comfortable you are, the easier it will be for you to relax and fall asleep — and for us to find out what's going on.
What to bring
Please bring comfortable, two-piece pajamas that are loose-fitting, and not made of satin, nylon, or silk. Please also bring toiletries, clothing for the next day, and a book or magazine to help you relax before you go to sleep. Be sure to bring any medications that you take regularly, as well as a list of medications that you’ve taken within the last two weeks. We provide linens and towels.
