Prenatal Testing

Most pregnant moms can't wait to have an ultrasound. Rochester Regional Health's Maternal-Fetal Medicine teams (including Perinatal Medicine and Antenatal Testing) provide ultrasounds and other diagnostic testing and treatments for mothers and babies-to-be. 

Diagnostic Services for Expecting Moms

Our comprehensive diagnostic imaging systems offer state-of-the-art imaging technology, including 3D/4D ultrasounds and Doppler assessments. These systems help us to detect any abnormalities earlier than ever before and significantly improves diagnostic confidence in complex exams.  

  • Prenatal diagnostics
    • Sonography, including first-trimester screenings
    • Fetal echocardiography
    • Procedures such as chorionic villus sampling (CVS) and amniocentesis
    • Genetic testing and counseling
  • Consultation for antepartum maternal and fetal complications
  • Gynecologic sonograms, including sonohysterography
  • Fetal monitoring, including biophysical profiles

High-risk Pregnancies

Your pregnancy is high risk if you or your baby has an existing condition or infection that creates an increased chance of developing health problems. Your obstetrician will monitor your status more closely and with more frequent doctor visits.

Certain health conditions can put you at higher risk for problems such as pre-term labor and preeclampsia. Those conditions include:

  • Advanced maternal age (35 and older)
  • Cancer
  • Diabetes
  • Epilepsy 
  • Genetic condition
  • Heart disease
  • Heart problem
  • High blood pressure
  • Viral infection (HIV or Hepatitis C)
  • Kidney disease
  • Lung disease 
  • Problem with past pregnancies
