Shorter Recovery with Less Scarring
At Rochester Regional Health’s Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery Program, we are committed to providing you with superior treatment for gynecologic and urogynecologic conditions that require surgery. Our gynecologic specialty surgeons work with you to determine whether a robotic, laparoscopic, vaginal or hysteroscopic procedure is an option for you. Every step of the way, our team will work with you to offer the latest in minimally invasive approaches–treatments that provide the best possible results with the fastest return to regular functioning.
What is Minimally Invasive Surgery?
Minimally invasive surgery is designed to make the smallest amount of incisions to complete a surgery, which provides a faster recovery time and minimizes postoperative complications. Procedures may include vaginal surgery (such as vNOTES) where all the incisions are made through the vagina. Other minimally-invasive procedures may use specialized tools with small skin incisions (smaller than an inch in size). This type of surgery is called laparoscopy, which can be performed with and without robotic assistance.
The most common concerns for women considering gynecologic surgery are:
- Will my body function normally after surgery?
- How long will my recovery take?
Minimally invasive surgery helps overcome some of these concerns with a faster return to normal living (on average) and smaller incisions resulting in a reduction in risk and less scarring. Our compassionate gynecologic surgery specialists encourage open communication and are here to answer any questions you may have. We will work together to build a treatment plan that meets your goals and needs.
The benefits of minimally invasive surgery may vary for each patient and procedure. The advantages include:
- A faster return to normal daily activities
- A shorter hospital stay
- Fewer complications
- Less blood loss
- Less scarring
- Significantly less pain
What is Robotic Surgery?
Robotic surgery is a specific type of minimally invasive surgery that uses the da Vinci technology to provide surgeons with a better picture of the surgical site, magnifying it by 10 times what the human eye sees. Your surgeon controls a camera and tiny instruments to perform the surgery. Surgery performed through these smaller incisions typically results in less pain and a faster recovery time.
Your provider will work with you to determine if a da Vinci robotic surgery is the right procedure for you.
Conditions and Treatments
Minimally invasive surgical techniques use smaller incisions. Not only do these incisions leave behind less scarring, but they also offer quicker recovery and less pain.
