Moving research from the bench to the bedside
Rochester General Hospital Research Institute's expert, dedicated researchers conduct vital clinical and translational research that contributes to advancements in healthcare and medical science. These innovative preventative and therapeutic advances are positively impacting the health and well-being of patients in our community and around the world.
The Rochester General Hospital Research Institute is a non-profit organization established as the research component of Rochester General Hospital. RGHRI's vision is to significantly advance translational and clinical research - capitalizing on the clinical strengths of Rochester General Hospital - to result in improved patient care.
RGHRI strives to improve the prevention and treatment of disease in four focus areas:
- Infectious disease and immunology
- Cardiovascular disease
- Cancer, cancer vaccines and blood disorders
- Biotechnology, bioengineering, imaging science and computing and information science
Research Areas
Center for Infectious Diseases and Immunology
RGHRI researchers are working to find treatments for patients with diseases caused by bacteria, fungi and viruses. Our goal is to help develop improved therapies, principally for patients whose diseases that have grown resistant to antibiotics and for patients with weakened immune systems. RGHRI researchers are developing new vaccines for preventing infections.
Center for Cardiovascular Disease
RGHRI is committed to researching solutions for patients who have diseases of the heart and blood vessels, including coronary artery disease, heart rhythm abnormalities, pulmonary hypertension, valvular heart disease, vascular disease, aortic disease, carotid artery disease and infections of the heart. With their proficiency and ground-breaking methods, our researchers continue to work to improve treatment for cardiovascular diseases.
Center for Cancer & Blood Disorders
Cancer
Clinical research has been instrumental in the incredible advancements in cancer treatment over the decades. RGHRI has designed clinical trials to help discover new ways to find and diagnose cancer, prevent cancer and manage symptoms of cancer or its treatment. Our researchers are testing new drugs and vaccines, techniques for surgery and radiation therapy and combinations of treatments.
Blood Disorders
RGHRI's groundbreaking research on blood disorders has allowed us to use our most current findings to offer sophisticated chemotherapy and curative bone marrow transplants. With expertise in the basic and clinical sciences, our researchers are exploring the basic origins of blood diseases and in turn transforming our findings into the most advanced diagnostic and treatment strategies available today.
Center for Biotechnology, Bioengineering & Imaging Science
Biotechnology
RGHRI is active in developing promising applications to problems and issues in the realm of biotechnology.
Bioengineering
Our research in bioengineering is geared towards higher systems approaches to provide engineering science to reduce the impact of disease in individuals.
Imaging Science
RGHRI is also conducting clinical, translational and basic imaging research in the fields of ultrasound, radiology and imaging sciences, nuclear medicine, positron emission tomography, the interventional radiology laboratory and molecular and cellular imaging.
