POTSDAM, NY – The signatures of leadership, staff, and board members will soon become a permanent part of Canton-Potsdam Hospital (CPH).
A Beam Signing Ceremony was held on Hospital grounds on Monday, February 27, 2023, to mark the most recent milestone of the multi-million dollar Regional Care Pavilion project at 50 Leroy Street, Potsdam.
Leadership representatives from CPH and St. Lawrence Health (SLH) were joined by their staff, board members, senior leadership from Rochester Regional Health (RRH), politicians, and area community members at the Ceremony.
SLH Board Chair Edward Mucenski welcomed those who gathered under a large tent on the sunny, winter day, just steps from the construction site.
“This is really a great day. This is the first addition we’ve had for inpatient rooms since 1975. It’s been a long time coming and is very much needed,” he said. “Since the groundbreaking last summer, we have been receiving continued progress updates from (President) Donna (McGregor), through emails, and media updates. Today is different; we are experiencing the progress in-person and are literally putting our hands and names on this project.
“Although we have seen unimaginable growth of services and expansion of the facilities throughout the Canton-Potsdam and system’s history, this is one of our grandest projects to date. Our community will have state-of-the-art patient-centered care, and our staff will have a modern facility to deliver exceptional, essential care,” Mr. Mucenski added.
SLH and CPH President Donna McGregor noted how proud she was to assist in recognizing and celebrating the occasion.
“We have had the continued support of our community members, Board of Directors, Foundation donors, Rochester Regional Health, our political representatives, and of course, our staff, who are the true cornerstone of this project and of this hospital and organization,” she said.
“Once the RCP is complete, we will have a large, modern, and more functional hospital to care for you, your families, and your friends for generations to come,” Ms. McGregor commented.
SLH is an affiliate of RRH, and among those from Rochester who made the trek north for the day were its Chief Executive Officer Richard Davis, PhD; and its Board Chair David Riedman.
“We thank all of you for bringing this phenomenal new facility together for us. We are thrilled to have St. Lawrence Health as part of Rochester Regional Health, and we look forward to working with all of you on this 21st century healthcare delivery model being built, and in the future on many exciting projects,” Mr. Davis said.
Mr. Riedman pointed out that signing the beam, which will be a permanent part of the Hospital, is a reflection of the RRH mission to provide permanent quality access, particularly in rural communities like Potsdam.
“At the center of everything Rochester Regional Health stands for is access to quality healthcare, and that manifests itself in many different ways; through people, through providers, and in this case, through a building that will be filled with great people,” he said.
