Additional Support Resources
While we are proud to offer support groups led by peers and professionals, other support options exist. Across the country, there are people intent on helping those during their time of need, and they include:
You are Not Alone
If you are experiencing anxiety, depression, an eating disorder, or another mental health problem, support groups are an excellent way to supplement therapy. Peer-led programs provide education, skills training, and support from people who have similar experiences to yours. You are not alone, and the support services and peer-led groups found at Rochester Regional Health can help you tackle your treatment head on.
What are Support Groups?
Support groups are a safe space focused on individuals coming together to share experiences, stories, and lives. They have shown reduction in loneliness and isolation, helping individuals to see that there are others out there dealing with similar situations and struggles.
Support groups can be valuable for most people, and are often focused on specific topics like grief, addiction, family, divorce, depression, and others. Finding the right one for you and your current situation can ensure you get the most out of them.
Therapy is only valuable when you and your therapist connect and get along, and the same is true for support. If the first group you attend doesn’t feel like a good fit, don’t get discouraged. Talk to your therapist or primary care physician (PCP) and ask for their recommendations. Choosing a group where you feel at-ease and comfortable sharing is important.
