As expectant parents, you probably have a lot of questions about what to expect during pregnancy and childbirth.

Rochester Regional Health is offering online courses so you can still get all the information you need prior to delivery. These classes can be completed in the comfort of your own home but don't hesitate to reach out to your care team if you have questions.


Newark-Wayne Community Hospital Classes

  • Recommended for parents during weeks 28-34 of pregnancy
  • Number of classes: 4 (2 hours each)
  • Frequency of Offering: 4 week series   

For: Women / families who have not yet attended childbirth classes.

This 4 class series is full of answers to questions that most expectant mothers have. This class covers what to expect with your pregnancy and labor, as well as comfort techniques and pain control possibilities. Attendees will also learn about unexpected outcomes, such as cesarean delivery. A virtual tour is also available to view.

  • Recommended for parents during weeks 30-37 of pregnancy
  • Number of classes: 1 (2 hours)
  • Frequency of Offering: Offered once per month

For: Strongly suggested for families interested in learning more about breastfeeding.

This 2 hour class covers basic information on milk production and how to breastfeed. This class also contains videos on latching, positioning, feeding cues, and lifestyles of breastfeeding families, as well as the working, breastfeeding mother.

  • 1 45-minute virtual tour
  • Frequency of offering: Offered twice a month

For: Expectant mothers and their families.

This 45-minute virtual tour of the Twig Birthing Center includes an eTour of the birthing center, and an in-depth discussion of what to expect during your admission, delivery, hospital stay and discharge.

Unity Hospital Classes 

The birth of a baby is a unique and personal experience and a special time for every parent. We look forward to welcoming you to the August Family Birth Place at Unity Hospital!

In-person tours of the Birth Place are offered once a month. Tours are free, but advance registration is required. To sign up for a tour, please fill and submit out the information below. Please note – you will need to fill out a separate registration for each person coming on the tour.

The August Family Birthplace is thrilled to announce in person childbirth classes.

Classes will be Tuesday’s held at Unity Hospital, Park Place Auditorium (below the café)

Class size will be limited to 8 couples.

Each session is a 5 week program.

  • Week 1 - 3rd Trimester/Stages of Labor
  • Week 2 - Comfort Measures/Breathing
  • Week 3 - Interventions/Medical Procedures
  • Week 4 - Newborn/Postpartum
  • Week 5 - Breastfeeding/Newborn

United Memorial Medical Center Classes & Tours

United Memorial Medical Center also offers the LEAD program for all mothers, providing support and guidance on their breastfeeding journey. As part of that program, we offer:

Our Infant Feeding Classes are recommended for parents during weeks 30-37 of pregnancy, and are strongly suggested for families interested in learning more about infant feeding, including breastfeeding. Breastfeeding, chest feeding, and bottle feeding methods will be discussed in the Infant Nutrition Class, as well as how to maintain milk with latching difficulties, while pumping, and beyond.

  • Frequency of offering: every 6 weeks

UMMC is a Baby Friendly Hospital offering the golden hour after birth for bonding, Lactation Consultant assistance while in the hospital, and discharge support. A continuum of care and support provided by trained and board certified Lactation Consultants can address important challenges in infant feeding, establish skills for breastfeeding, and competency and confidence among mothers.
