Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteers participate in our healing mission in many and varied ways. The volunteer assignments and programs listed below are our current priorities and the greatest areas of need.
Rochester General Hospital

Visitor and Patient Support Roles
Emergency Department Patient Companion
- Check in on patients to offer smiles, a listening ear, encouragement, blankets, and pillows
- Assist the movement of patients either by pushing in wheelchair or a walking escort
- Run labs from one area to another in the department
- Get, move, stock supplies where and when needed
- Other activities as needed to support the patient experience
Volunteer shifts: volunteers needed every day of the week, 8:00 am - 12:00 p.m., 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm and 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm
Visitor (Guest) Services
- Greet and welcome those entering the hospital lobby
- Provide walking and wheelchair assistance throughout the hospital
Volunteer shifts: Mon – Fri: 8:00 am – 12:00 pm and 12:00 – 4:00 pm, and 4:00 - 7:00 pm as well as Saturdays/Sundays: 9:00 am - 1:00 pm and 4:00 - 7:00 pm
Once a new volunteer begins, she/he is assigned to orient and train with one of our experienced volunteers.
Way-Finding Podium
- Be a friendly, warm, and smiling presence
- Answer questions and provide directions
- Guide people to elevators and other key locations
Volunteer shifts: Mon - Fri, 8:00 am - 1:00 pm and 4:00 - 7:00 pm
Once a new volunteer begins, she/he is assigned to orient and train with one of our experienced volunteers.
